Da Nang ,occasionally called Danang is a major port city in the South Central Coast of Vietnam, on the coast of the South China Sea at the mouth of the Han River. It is the commercial and educational center of Central Vietnam; its well-sheltered, easily accessible port and its location on the path of the North-South Railway also makes it a hub for transportation. The city keeps the highest urbanization ratio among provinces and municipalities in Vietnam.[2] It is located within 100km of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Imperial City of Huế, the Old Town of Hoi An, and the My Son ruins.

Da Nang is one of five independent (centrally-controlled) municipalities in Vietnam, and is listed as a first class city. The city was also known as Tourane or Turon during the French colonization of Vietnam.

The Chams, Hindus originally from India, were the rulers of large areas of central Vietnam between the 2nd and 15th centuries. The Cham Museum, housed in a classical French colonial building in Danang, has the finest collection of Cham sculpture in the world, much of it originating from the My Son site.

Right on Danang’s doorstep is Non Nuoc Beach with its miles of golden sand beaches and home to a luxurious beach resort complex. Another popular site in the Da Nang area is the Marble Mountains, five sacred marble and limestone hills. Many shrines and temples have been constructed over the centuries both on the hillsides and in the spectacular natural caves concealed within the hills.

Da Nang International Airport, located at the center of the city, is the third international airport in Vietnam. It is an important gateway to access central Vietnam. Before 1972, it was one of the busiest airports in the world due to the intensive military activities around the nearby seafront airbase.

Vietnam Airlines has been operating several domestic flights to Da Nang and Hanoi, Hồ Chí Minh City, Quy Nhơn , Pleiku and Buon Ma Thuot.
